Queen Aislinn was the wife of the tyrant King Freyne, and the mother of Einon. She was of Celtic origin as Draco called her The Daughter of the Celts.
Biography[]
She has no love for her husband but she cannot help but love their son. She was distressed when she sees Einon dying from the wound he sustained when he was accidentally pushed into a wooden spike by a peasant girl named Kara. She blames her husband's cruelty for her son's injuries.
Aislinn takes her dying son to a Dragon (later named Draco by Bowen) and begs him to save her son's life. They greet each other as friends, implying that Aislinn's people were friends of the dragons. She tries to convince Draco that Einon is not his father and that he will be a better King. Draco reluctantly gives in to her please and gives the prince half of his heart, after he made him swear to rule with justice.
12 years later, her son became just as cruel as his father, if not more so, causing Aislinn to bitterly regret saving his life. That night, Kara, the same girl who accidentally wounded Einon when he was young, breaks into the castle and tries to kill him to avenge her father's death but was taken captured and taken prisoner. When Aislinn hears from her that her son killed her father, she looks at Einon with disappointment and realizes that something must be done about him.
She later saves Kara from Einon's bedchamber, after he made a failed attempt to seduce her, and shows her the way out through the passages under the castle. Aislinn tells Kara that she won't let her suffer the same fate as she did. This implies that Aislinn had been forced to marry her husband and didn't want Kara to be forced to marry a monster.
A few days later, when the peasants, along with Sir Bowen, Kara, and Brother Gilbert, organized a rebellion against Einon, Aislinn seized the opportunity to end her son's life and hires a group of five dragon slayers (their names revealed in the novelization as Sir Uhlric, Sir Ivor, Sir Cavan and the brothers Tavis & Trahern). With Draco and Einon's lives connected she secretly hoped that the dragon slayers will end Draco's life before Einon becomes aware of his connection with the dragon. This plan fails when Brother Gilbert shot an arrow at Einon which caused Draco to feel the pain and fall into the castle. When Einon realized that he is immortal, due to his connection, he was able to ride back to his castle in time to stop the dragon slayers from killing Draco, thus saving his own life.
With her plan rendered a failure, Aislinn took matters into her own hands and sneaks out into the courtyard at night to say goodbye to Draco and to end his life but she is stopped by Einon. He accuses her of hiring the dragon slayers just to end his life. She then admits "I wanted to correct a mistake made years ago when I saved a creature not worth saving." to which he replies "How un-motherly of you". Knowing that his mother will keep trying to kill the dragon, Einon stalks her, after she turned to leave and followed her into a dark part of the castle. He then kills her with the spear that she attempted to use to kill Draco. Draco then heard Aislinn's screams and roared in grief over her death. Its unknown if her corpse was ever found.
